What do you expect? Do you want him to die? They may have threatened his mother or sister or someone in his family. Think about that. It is bad enough if it is your life, but to let someone else die, that is pretty scary and creepy. That is probably what they did to Bernie.
I can't prove it, of course, but given how evil these people are, I have my suspicions that if he was threatened, they not only threatened harm to Bernie's family, but threatened to draft his grandkids into their trafficking efforts. Sick fucks.
