Edit: This article http://archive.is/5nRAK states the origin of the shoes: "One associate gabbed to Yeas & Nays that their Giorgio Brutini shoes were purchased for the Podesta Group on Overstock.com with a price tag less than $100."
See, when an ordinary group photo is destroyed off the internet, that makes me think it was revealing something. Something that requires brainstorming to figure out. I feel the mods rules restrict brainstorming.

Do we know who the people in the picture wearing the shoes are? I tried searching for the articles about the birthday party and look what happened to this one: http://www.politico.com/click/stories/0910/podesta_celebrates_65th_birthday_in_museum.html Do you know what the original source for that photo is? Has it been scrubbed from the web?

They still make a similar shoe: http://asset.leathercoatsetc.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/650x/040ec09b1e35df139433887a97daa66f/9/3/9333m_red_1.jpg
