Dammit....I liked Hugh Jackman. If Russell Crowe and Eric Bana pics surface, that means I'm down to Rebel Wilson for favorite Aussie actor, which is sad. Hustle up Australia!
Rebel Wilson is just awful. Indeed, most of the Australian celebs are embarrassments to the nation. Most of these people have never been heard of in Australia until suddenly they become internationally successful.
It is an SBS show, very popular but puerile, it also starred Paul Fenech. Rebel Wilson played a character named Toula. She has actually been acting for years.
Being on an SBS show means virtually nothing in this country.
No one had heard of Wilson until she went to the States and there she suddenly was on The Project and the mainstream media were telling us that she was another Aussie international superstar.
My generalisation is meant to apply to all Aussie international 'superstars,' though, not just Wilson. I take it you're a particular fan of hers.
Us Southerner's love and respect Aussies...except for the gun confiscation thing. But there is a rugged individualism that we identify with. Plus, there is the strange ability of Aussie actors to better portray a US Southern accent better than dam yankee US actors. I was literally crushed after I saw Blackhawk Down and found out that Eric Bana was not from the Southern US...he sounded like a legit ridge runner to me.
The person I've seen impersonate a southern accent that sounded correct was Robert Duvall in Lonesome Dove. No Country for Old Men, for example, pissed me off so much. I just couldn't take it. People don't talk like that. Even in small towns.
Yeah, he does nail it...and I agree about you can't watch some movies because the Southern accents are too bad. A lot of the Hollywood actors sound like they are being condescending. Tom Hardy (UK) gets an honorable mention for his Southern accent in Lawless. And then there was the moment I found out Jax in Sons of Anarchy was not born in the US...

Rebel Wilson has been on TV for years! Ever watch Fat Pizza?
SIMONBARROW ago
No, but it really doesn't sound like my kind of show.

On the contrary, I don't particularly like her but she was very well known before her "overnight" rise to stardom.

To the 10 people who watch SBS?
Commonwombat ago
What's your point? You don't know her, you don't watch SBS, I get it. Stop being a jerk

I didn't ask you to go on and on about Rebel Wilson, as if she were the only person I was referring to.
