Could be common knowledge, could be not...
Compare Voat search results:

With a google search within v/pizzagate for the same search terms:

Key here is to add: site:voat.co/v/pizzagate after your search terms, this tells Google to search for your search terms within the specified domain after site:
Google will also index: Deleted threads. comments and full URLs (perfect for checking if a link has been posted already)
how-to http://i.imgur.com/oai8Wu6.png
Step 1: go to www.google.com
Step 2: add your search terms/url
Step 3: add site:voat.co/v/pizzagate
Step 4: hit search and enjoy
Remember contributing to threads is considered more valueable than reposting information

I don't like the idea of relying on Google, but Voat's search is terrible. Hope that someone trustworthy is archiving every post and comment for us. Sadly online services like archive.is don't all save all the comments.
For personal archiving In the meantime, you can bookmark, take screenshots, and/or download the webpage. Load all the comments you want, then hit "Ctrl + s" in your browser and then save as "Web Page, complete"

it does work for all search engines, I edited in an EDIT at the top of OP, stating it's not limited to Google and actually DuckDuckGo yields most results

agreed, guess it also works with Duckduckgo / Bing and possible others?
