removing per rule 3. title inaccurate (one incident is not a "string"). please resubmit with accurate title. also, there seems to be some kind of problem with the link. please address that, if possible.

Orange_Circle ago

Why do people default to this kind of behavior? I just don't get that.

ScientiaPotentia ago

Not secure site. Flagged.

contrary_mma_hipster ago

OP - take down this link and post the archive link asap.

HarleyDavidsonRider ago

So what the fuck was that link ? People trying to steal personal info ??

salinaslayer ago

Alefantis did have a soundproof van on his instagram, if we can connect that van to these crimes he's done

MWcrazyhorse ago

It tells me "this connection is not secure". Anyone else get this message? I am in Germany.

VieBleu ago

Can you archive the article please? I'm getting that it's a less than secure website when I click. thanks. Edit: saw it down below.

This is a good catch - weird crime in a van.

However, I am not seeing where it was a string of assaults, but I didn't watch the video, only read the article.

Yuser_Manuel ago

Some sites are calling it the "booty gang". Here is an ABC article (doesn't refer to it as the booty gang": http://wjla.com/news/local/man-allegedly-robbed-raped-at-knifepoint-by-2-men-in-popular-northwest-dc-park

MolochHunter ago

Am i missing something -how is this one incidence a 'string' - (I didn't look at the dodgy site link but read the archived pages)

Beaucephus ago

They have the van and they have a garage to pull into in a nice quiet alleyway.

IlluminatiKing ago

Oh god. Alefantis and his boys have finally lost it.

fartyshorts ago

The link doesn't work for me, but thankfully someone archived it back in August 2015. http://archive.is/y2ta8

Astrodreamer ago

google: 'D.C. Man Forced into Van at Gunpoint' -- for one incident in Aug 2015.

Beaucephus ago

This server could not prove that it is www.nbcwashington.com; its security certificate is from a248.e.akamai.net. This may be caused by a misconfiguration or an attacker intercepting your connection.

Devious1 ago

On these sites, why are there so many Untrusted certificates. It's almost like these sites are trying to harvest information or install malware certificate not trusted

Orange_Circle ago

Can I get some kind of blocker for that stuff? I'm sort of technology unaware.

Devious1 ago

Malware is that advanced that, it's impossible to block everything. All you need to do is change the code very slightly and then it's a different variation that could be left un detected. Also it depends which OS your usIng.

Orange_Circle ago

I think it's Windows 7. I turned off the auto-updated about 5 years ago. I just noticed a few days ago when I was googling around that Google stopped my searches and started asking for a captcha code.

I guess I need to get something and run a scan.

Thanks for the reply.

Devious1 ago

From the sounds of it and what you have done, your machine sounds to me as if it's massively Compromised. I wouldn't run a scan I would format and reinstall the operating system. Specially if you've been digging round threads like these. Don't tell me you also use chan sites?

If Google is asking you for captchas the chances are your machine has been turned into a bot-net - c2c server

Orange_Circle ago

I don't actually use the Chan, but when they were discovering a lot of the initial info I read there.

Devious1 ago

Yeh sorry, I seriously wouldn't trust your machine. I'd switch it off and use something else in the meantime. But obviously you do what you wish.

Orange_Circle ago

It's off for now. Thanks for the heads up.

Reckon I'd better see if I can find the cd to re-do it.

Devious1 ago

If you do redo it get a decent AV and don't turn off Windows updates.

No worries about the heads up, it's just your digging around in the pizza stuff and there are a lot of bad folks about

ghost_marauder ago

To put it bluntly from a Sysadmin point of view. We forget. They have like a 6 month + time frame, and usually we're too busy solving shit to handle the notes on what we did six months ago correctly. Just saying that it could be an idiot in the pipeline of their servers, or an overworked tech monkey. In any and all events though, it's not good.

SChalice ago

Because its costs money.

Laserchalk ago

It's nbc washington though. You can visit the site without the security warning but the security warning only appears on this article of theirs.

http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/Man-Forced-into-Van-at-Gunpoint-Sexually-Assaulted-Police-Say-320441252.html

OP has some extra stuff on the end of their link

Devious1 ago

That defeats the object, you're just accessing the site via http not https Ie not secure, so if your not using a sandboxed environment your advise is very bad
