I think it's vital to understand, so thanks for sharing! I recently read the book The Sociopath Next Door and it really shed some light on the subject. It's hard for people with a conscience and empathy to understand someone without. And people without know that people with a conscience are often great targets for manipulation.
One of the tell-tale signs is the "pity me" defense. Which JA uses quite a bit.
