Maybe not bricked up at all - maybe there's a door here connecting the two buildings.

This is a further piece of evidence to support the theory that all the businesses on this corner are involved in some way.

my theory is this: the pics of the men working diggin dirt are inside of McCullough, and there may be an entrance to/from Comet - the gap was filled to support or hide entry.

McCullough supposedly vacated in 2005 right when Comet moved in, but left sign up.

I actually used to be a non believer in the "underground tunnels" slant but the more I look into it....the more it seems likely there is at least a local access to most of the buildings on the block.

Comet once had a private party where the instructions were to enter Bucks - two doors down, and then go to comet....very strange why not just go to comet?

Yes, it said 'enter through Bucks.'

There's no reason to discount the tunnels idea. The structures were built in 1932, during Prohibition, and this part of Washington teemed with speakeasies. It's likely that all the buildings were connected with tunnels to facilitate the delivery of illegal alcohol.

You say McCullough vacated in 2005? If so, what's there now?

This is a very good point.
