That's a bit hard to believe... someone is labeled as "more than a [crypto] hobbyist" with roots in the NSA and falls victim to a phishing attempt? That is like Michael Jordan missing a slam dunk on a Little Tikes basketball hoop.
We shouldn't conflate knowing a thing or two about encryption with being wise to phishing attempts. He probably knows some specific things, but I doubt he is an expert.
Do we even have confirmation that his email was phished (besides the leaked phishing email)? That in itself is not proof that he actually went for the bait and used it to change his password
Yeah very true, he might know specifics about one particular area but not really be well versed in email security. He probably first got into it before computers even existed!!
