Which I think you would agree would be unlikely. Someone competent enough to be White House chef going out like that....

Not necessarily. Flash floods can come out of nowhere and catch even experienced hikers completely off guard
You have a point. I have to read and consider this more. On the surface the death sounds like the smiley face killer victims where people drown when tHey never should have been in water in the first place.
