YOU KNOW WHAT THE DIFFERENCE IS BETWEEN JFK AND NOW? WE HAVE THE INTERNET.
WHO CARES IF WE'RE "CORRALLED"? WE HAVE A NICE PLACE HERE TO INVESTIGATE. WE CAN SPEAK FREELY TO EACH OTHER.
NO OTHER CROWD INVESTIGATION LIKE THIS IN HISTORY HAS HAD THIS LUXURY.

Mobile internet was the tipping point that made the difference. Internet access was still spotty then. Now most have access to a reliable mobile connection at least.
Honestly, not as much. That was 15 years ago...Facebook didn't even exist back then. No one spent as much time online as they do now.
