This may be obvious or already overasked (my bad if so) but is anybody looking into or know anything about who at reddit has made it such an priority to squash this and possibilities why? Like who and wtf is their problem?

I'm going to guess it's specifically these guys who are causing the trouble:

Robert A. Sauerberg, Jr. is Condé Nast's chief executive officer and president, Charles H. Townsend is its chairman and Samuel Irving Newhouse, Jr. is its chairman emeritus. The company launched Condé Nast Entertainment in 2011 to develop film, television and digital video programming.

Condé Nast (stylized as CONDÉ NAST) is an American mass media company founded in 1909 by Condé Montrose Nast, based at One World Trade Center and owned by Advance Publications. The company attracts more than 164 million consumers across its 18 brands and mediums: Allure, Architectural Digest, Ars Technica, Bon Appétit, Brides, Condé Nast Traveler, Epicurious, Glamour, Golf Digest, GQ, The New Yorker, Pitchfork, Self, Teen Vogue, Vanity Fair, Vogue, W, Wired, and Reddit.
