Can someone please explain why it seems so many non-primitive people are into magic rituals? Are these people actually getting something tangibly magical out of it? It goes against my understanding of reality but there must be a reason for this.
Ex pagan here-- Magic has power if you believe in it. So if you do a spell or rite to influence a situation around you, you end up using confirmation bias if things go their way, or if their expectations fall flat, maybe they need to crank up the magic factor with more offerings to their deity of choice. Either way, more "magic" would be done.
Some pagan paths hold that sex can be powerful magic; the building of energy until orgasm, which then releases it into the ether to work one's will. Again, if one believes that such actions actually influence the world around them, then their perception of magic is dependent on how they view it. Could be they do it for shock value; black mass sort of shit... ritualized rich people blackmail club. Could be they do it because they get off on the power and making it look even more "fuck you normies" because normal people would get their asses handed to them in prison during shower time.
Could be that they believe the magic is real (it's not; otherwise they'd still be operating in secret lol ) and so they keep it up.
It must be more than that. Look at how powerful they are. The magic couldnt prevent wikileaks though. That's their own fault for being to blatant. Notice theyre still in power.

It's possible. Just like it's possible for them to be delusional and use "magic" as an excuse to exert power over the powerless.
