When this whole #PizzaGate story hit, I couldn't help but remember back to the late 80's when a large number of Pizza shops in the NYC metro area were found to be involved with a huge heroin distribution ring. I actually met some of the low level dealers who had sourced their wares from these places. Here is an old NYTimes story on it, as well as the Wikipedia entry on what happened.
The reason why I think this is important is because it shows how, in the case, Pizza Shops have been in the past found colluding with some very bad people.. How did this happen? Why does it happen? Why Pizza?

When I first heard about PizzaGate, I found it puzzling that everyone defaulted to 'chld prn.' I thought, anything but that. Heroin, coke, pot, ecstasy, weapons, Art, Eastern European hookers, B-List Hollywood soap stars...Pizza and its condiments, could have been euphemisms for any of those things.

Great point.. The fact that Pizza is pretty much the one food that is "International".. No matter where you are, you can always find a pizza place! So its a great cover for an international network.. its an international food.
