Dilated Cardiomyopathy would be easy to cause by injection (or other administration) of an overdose of certain compounds (causes of cardiomyopathy, see bullet 5 of second subheading), but you would need a coroner that could be coerced into fabricating a false toxicology report, or would ignore the need for a real tox report.

That's not something that happens during half a day, it's a gradual process. I can't see how you can cause someone to get dilated cardiomyopathy by secretly poisoning them; they'd notice in advance as their health deteriorated.

It'd be much easier for the coroner to completely fake the report, if anything.

You're right. The non-hereditary types would have to be (if intentional) caused by administration over a long time. And the compounds that cause it are all CNS stimulants or psychostimulants. But if a target already had a history of using "uppers," cardiomyopathy could be the most logical cover story. However, you're right again that falsifying records would be the easiest...
