I'm starting to see this as a new tactic in deception by the media.
Whereas they used to post separate articles when they had a development in a story... which is a practice which was necessitated by newspapers, now they just update the same story over and over. It collapses the story into one article, limiting exposure. Stories they want to push, on the other hand, will get a brand new article and post for every little detail. It allows for them to "correct the record" by subtracting facts and adding conclusory statements disguised as facts.
They also get to test the waters in terms of how the public will react to facts they put in the article, and then make adjustments.
