So strange that out of 14 missing children in Alexandria, Virginia 1/2 of them have Hispanic names...so 7 of the children. Even more strange that according to pew research that area only has a 10% Hispanic population. Are these the kids that have been brought across the border, a few years back?? I noticed a trend with increased Hispanic names of kids that are missing, I would expect that in San Antonio...but not up there.

Also keep in mind that there is City of Alexandria, and Alexandria (not city), which is part of Fairfax County. The route 1 corridor is heavily Hispanic.

Those areas outside of DC have an unfortunate problem with the MS13 and related latino gangs. In recent history they have engaged in sex trafficking as noted in the Washington Compost:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/gangs-in-northern-virginia-increasingly-selling-children-for-sex/2013/09/29/3386e1a8-1c9c-11e3-82ef-a059e54c49d0_story.html?utm_term=.e96997388a1f

This often explains the fact that names are Latino.

"At a trial in federal district court in Alexandria this month, prosecutors said Chyna was one of at least four teenagers sold as sex workers by the “Cold-blooded Cartel,” a Georgia-based gang that found Northern Virginia to be an especially lucrative territory to prostitute children."

I noticed this tweet from the FBI about the same time people here started talking about the missing children statistics. https://sli.mg/h3J7t3

Found another missing child website that seems to show Virginia with too many missing children, 28 pages worth. http://www.laws9.com/missingkids/list/state/Virginia

Wow, take a look at all of those disappearances slap bang in the centres of Fairfax, Manassas and Alexandria to within a couple blocks. Something's definitely not right.

Pretty interesting. Haven't seen that many people map it out for us, even if it's not 100% I appreciate the work man.

No, not the exact exact locations, just the city or county. Currently looking into local charities, foster care, teen runaway programs in the hot spots which include Fairfax, Richmond, Manassas and Norfolk. That data doesn't seem right.

Are you sure that doesn't include resolved cases? I find it hard to believe it was that few in those other years.

Kastonomy ago

Im using this websites search engine http://www.missingkids.com/Search/VA and taking notes from what they provide. Searching year by year. Completed similar searches for all states not just Virginia. I dont know what agencies supply the data or who is responsible for maintaining the site. Also an interesting point about Virginia is the amount of missing kids without a stock photo. An anomaly exclusive to Virginia

oresd ago

I'm not attacking you, goes without saying, but I think its fair to question the data. Clearly not questioning your results. I have a hard time believing those are numbers of reports as opposed to active cases.

Kastonomy ago

That's what I'm trying to figure out. How do the names end up on this page. What's the criteria and circumstances. 290+ entries this year.

oresd ago

Effort is much appreciated and valued. Being a VA resident, this is crushing.

Kastonomy ago

I know

Wow. Look at that hotspot in Fairfax, VA.

Excellent work.

I am assuming that this does not identify the exact spot of disappearance? Or does it?

If it doesn't I would suggest narrowing it down to fairfax and pinpoint exact disappearance locations. There is going to be a pattern there.
