The surname Alefantis is quite uncommon. Ancestry.com says there are only 49 people with this last name and they are all in US and Canada. The site also says it does not find any meaning for the name, so it is not a Greek name for elephant, it appears.

As as i have answered in a previous thread Alefantis can be derived from Alifantis ( written with u, ei or i in the original Greek language ) , alternative probable spellings : Alifantis , Alefantes , Alifantes , Anifantis
