Edit: Another possibility (tin foil power 2) would be that the establishment is blocking the investigation while some info is released to the public so we expose what could be used in the FBI case so that they can hide as much as possible and prepare some kind of plausible deniability and chop some heads in the doing. Like: Oh Mrs. Clinton you failed? let's punish you with you're campaign manager (even in this case i think they are losing control and will lose more than projected!)
