General skeptic here, but being familiar with the people involved this look incredibly legit to me.
Spez is actually fighting against banning because he knows it would be a shitshow, the default mods are pushing for the ban because they hate that such a popular and prolific section of the site has popped up that they have no power over.
The corruption of /r/politics has never gotten as much attention as /r/The_Donald was able to bring to it and the admins told them they had to knock that off.
