That's because that was really really rare and almost never happened. What happens a lot more then that is parents/relative/foster care selling the kids. It isn't the stranger you need to fear, it is those you trust.

That seems a bit sensationalized.... How many are found, though? How many are kids that ran away for an afternoon, or dad that didnt bring king the kids back to bitter divorce mom within the court appointed time?

Tossing out numbers like this are a distraction from your goal - how many are not found is the stat you should be looking for.

After a little digging, i found that 50% of the cases are runaways, 25% is in-family abduction.

But there's still a staggering one quarter unaccounted for.

Wow....I'm not sure if I'm more surprised that OP delivered or that the number is still that high. So many more questions now......

about 90% of those reported missing are found. the actual number is somewhere around 80,000 a year, which is still a lot.

Half are family abduction. Another 75k are "known" (older bf of 12 yo girl). Most of the rest are runaways...and a repeat runaway is reported every time. There are less than 150 true "missing" every year but most of these have never been found bodies or otherwise....though supposedly, most kids die w.in hours of kidnapping. "Missing" numbers are going down but some indicate that thousands of recently arrived illegal children may be disappearing. Even if a report is filed with social services due to abuse...CPS never goes or takes a long time...when they get there, kids gone and no one knows.
