My best guess, which is terrible, is most Americans really don't care about rape, whether the victim is a man or a woman. The problem with rape allegations is that there is a rich history of supposed rape victims who lied about it for financial gain. Just look at how many athletes have had rape allegations against them be dismissed or settled out of court. The double standard is revealed in how the media chooses to report on rape allegations, going as far as using them as a weapon to punish political dissidents.
