I've heard the same thing as the guy you're replying to. It's obviously not just an Asiatic thing; it's that the affects of the virus are more severe among a certain genetic type. There's also some speculation that severe effect may be linked to a history of smoking as well.
That is correct to a certain degree, I've seen the science. The key is that it does not ONLY attack Asians, it simply spreads slightly easier within the Asian population, and that is based on some early determinations of it because its similar to SARS, they haven't had time to really study it deeply yet. In addition the virus was weaponized and is already showing signs of morphing and adapting in various populations.
At the end of the day, its not the virus mortality that is the biggest problem, its the impacts it has on economies. If an economy or gov't like China collapses, far more people will die of starvation than the virus itself.
Bunch of Italians by blood have now died so you can toss that theory right out the window. There is no data that suggests this is only severe in asians at this point in time.

I agree, the virus is bad enough but all the repercussions will be worse. Panic, economic problems, loss of trust among people etc.
