There's a difference between a chain-link fence and a solid-steel slats. The advantage of the slats is that border patrol can see through them. The other advantage is that they're much cheaper and faster to build, as opposed to the fantasy wall that people want to build across thousands of miles of border.
Do you want something achievable and reasonably effective, or something that's never going to happen and even then is not impenetrable by a determined attacker? The point of the wall, barrier, wence, fence, or whatever the fuck you want to call it is to add friction and keep the casual people just walking across the border out. Walls are not, essentially, made entirely of vertical poles stuck into the ground, attached at their tops. Semantics aside, lets look at this objectively: go to :37-:43 and look at what's on that Gradal. Those slits are wide enough to pass drugs, guns, money and virtually anything through them. Hell, they're so wide that women could literally put their vaginas up against them and have babies come out on the other side (legally a citizen and I would suppose be considered an anchor baby... I would propose we call these specific ones "grapple babies" as they would be similar to the grappling hooks pirates used in the days of naval warfare to grab a hold of other ships, secure yours to theirs, and then board them).

The steel slate system is fine, it’s 99% as effective as a wall, is cheaper, allows for visual observation of the other side at ground level, can be constructed AND repaired much more quickly. All you really need in addition is something at the head to render such as abutments.

Agreed. The wall that's being replaced is a good start. But it's insufficient, and it looks like ~770 miles now of the project is not wall but fence.
They also show what happens to even the sturdiest of linked fence in these videos: it requires substantial amounts of repair (squares re-welded onto it non-stop). I imagine long-term a fence is like putting your military at the border; costly and impractical over the long-term. A "high-tech wall" (as promised), and well staffed border patrol is what is needed (or just auto-turrets, stages of tear-gas and less lethal systems, and automated warning systems, and actual guns).
If slats come behind the fence, and then something to shore up what's being put in currently is next, great. But be realistic: that's not going to be done. Once it's done "IT'S DONE!" is all we're going to hear for the next length of Donald Dipshit's term.
As far as the slats they say "oh no, this way is great.. it, uh, lets us 'see through' to the other side! ...so we can watch 'em buggers!" Not buying it. Official narrative is bullshit. Gapped slats are insufficient. I know they want guns, money, drugs, and organ donors coming through for their masters and black projects, but I don't.
Close it. Put in the "high tech sensing system" we were promised and shore up the slats. The slats are only being put up in highly trafficked areas. Visual observation is irrelevant, as Border Patrol will not be getting warnings and will not be there at all times. They will have to be in the immediate vicinity to observe, and even then they will have to have sufficient resources (and not be ordered to "stand down" as obama told them to) when "Grapple Babies" come through. Again, the videos show you how they behave. They wait, watch them climb the fence, then detain them at taxpayer expense.

What Trump tweeted, and called a fence, isn't a normal "fence" it's a barrier but Trump is calling it a fence to sell to the normies screeching about a wall Remember Schumer said he's okay with a fence but not a wall and people aren't thinking about this rationally. Look at the Great Wall of China, you think it's the same monumental edifice across it's entire 1,000 mile span? No it is not, there are sections were the wall is much shorter, why? Because natural barriers render the need for a giant edifice unnecessary. If your building a wall 100 miles from the nearest city, in the middle of a fucking desert, it does not need to be as tall as it would between the San Diego and Tijuana border.
Give me a break, that was hyperbole, we all know Trump does this, no wall is 100% impassable but that isn't the point it makes it harder. Even politifact acknowledged that the fence, and yes an actual fence like you see outside prison yards not concrete walls, cut Palestinian incursions by 99%.

There's a difference between a chain-link fence and a solid-steel slats. The advantage of the slats is that border patrol can see through them. The other advantage is that they're much cheaper and faster to build, as opposed to the fantasy wall that people want to build across thousands of miles of border.
Do you want something achievable and reasonably effective, or something that's never going to happen and even then is not impenetrable by a determined attacker? The point of the wall, barrier, wence, fence, or whatever the fuck you want to call it is to add friction and keep the casual people just walking across the border out. Any barrier is going to need a manned patrol backing it up anyways.
Perfection is the enemy of the good. Right now we have nothing across large tracts of border.

That's the official excuse for leaving holes in a wall so drugs, guns, money, and Grapple Babies can come across. You don't need to see through a wall if it's solid and there are cameras and sensors on and around it with an active alert system for border patrol. Seeing through or not seeing through border patrol will be unable to do anything regardless: look at the videos of them in S.D., CA: they watch as people climb the wall, wait until they run up to them, then arrest them.
