I believe that if true that opens up Google, Facebook. etal. to RICO type charges.

fusir ago

Did they direct them? RICO might no mean what you think it means.

I can only assume all those groups are honeypots. Surely no one would be so stupid as to use a google service to share something that dangerous.

andrew_jackson ago

LOL, Lia you are nowhere near the bottom of this particular rabbit hole.

=-)

D = CV*min(1,FR/FV)-CR. Demand curve of a media market. C is commercial, V is value, F is non-paying, R is risk. Each is a distribution. Media only has value if you apply risk to a non-paying party. Learn how copyright works.

Will applying more FR shrink or grow the market?

Broc_Lia ago

Media only has value if you apply risk to a non-paying party.

That's demonstrably not true though: You can download almost any media risk free these days, but people still pay for it.

fusir ago

You can't do it entirely risk free, and there is a perception of risk distribution. Some people perceive risk if they torrent. That's what matters.

Are you telling me Justin Bieber wouldn't want downloading his music to be an instant felony charge?

Broc_Lia ago

The point isn't that a perception of risk prevents some people from copying media. It's that most people perceive no risk and still pay for media. The perception of risk is unnecessary.

He probably would, but it won't help drive sales.

I'm a Nationalist, meaning that I tend to view central control as a good thing.

...people here are libertarians and confederates, which usually oppose central control. Menaces like CP thrive in those types of environments. Reap what you sow?

fusir ago

There are no menaces "like CP". CP is a digital material, not a person. Producers of CP absolutely thrive in environments of central control. That's what that formula says. It says that the more you try to control it the more the production segment of the exchange produces. This is because applying risk to a non-paying recipient is necessary for commercial production of a media, which unfortunately has been taking off because of our economic ignorance.

Imagine a giant nasty compost pile. Imagine that you were really proud of your nasty compost pile. The pile is the sum of all media produced since copyright became a thing. It includes rap music, adult pornography, big bang theory, modern family. Most of what has been produced has been complete trash. Compare that to what was made before copyright. "Letters to a German Princess" (the foundations of our current math education), the bible, the wealth of nations.

Now imagine as proud as you are in your heaping pile of filth you see something a little too filthy for you. A mold growing. And you say, awh hell no. So you decide you must do something about it. You take a black garbage bag and lay it over it and pin it down with bricks thinking you will now suffocate it. Someone says that's a bad idea but you say we must do something. This mold is unacceptable and we can't just let it grow on our pile. But in the meantime the black bag gives our mold the heat and the moisture and the darkness the mold needs to grow. It start growing 50x faster than it had grown before and starts to generate spoors that despite the plastic bag sometimes leak out, and make people mad again.

So what do. Do we remove the plastic bag? It's spoors will go everywhere. Maybe the one thing we do is recognize that implementing a copyright policy for CP was a bad idea from the start, all because of Kylie Freedman.

Also being a nationalist does not mean you view central control as a good thing. It means you think nation-states should be a thing. The highest order of centralization would be a one world government. You can't even handle the details of something you profess to believe in. How are you going to handle the economics of a very difficult subject that impacts children. Do us a favor and let the people who understand media markets set the policy.

Broc_Lia ago

Nationalism doesn't imply central control though.

Also, central control doesn't prevent pedophiles, elites are just as capable of pedophilia as anyone else. Arguably more so since they face less consequences for misbehaviour. See Epstein for example.
