I'm way ahead of you. In 2007 I moved to a very small town in the middle of nowhere.
I now have immediate access to farm land, livestock, wildlife (fish, game birds, deer, elk, etc.). This area has an abundance of coal, oil, natural gas, and wind energy. Oil and natural gas refineries, as well as power generating facilities, are a couple of hours away. (New facilities within minutes of where I live are currently being developed.)
A major river is not too far away and I'm close to the intersection of two well-maintained US highways.
My Internet connection is fast with a fiber-to-the home connection.
I learned how to garden and was producing so much that I was even selling fresh produce. (I no longer sell, however, because so many other people in the area have taken up gardening that there is now such an abundance of fresh produce during the summer months that people literally give the extra stuff away for free.) Some people in the area also raise chickens and sell fresh eggs. There is a Hutterite or Mennonite community not too far away that practices organic farming. They readily sell their produce to anybody in the area.
The population density is VERY low, with 99.99% of the people being white. The state was being infected with government relocation of third world degenerates (before Trump), but this infection will most likely be eradicated fairly easily when the time comes. The larger cities in the state are experiencing problems with the increase in degenerates, however, but the town I live in is not.
In the last couple of years my town has begun experiencing an influx of young white couples looking to raise children. We also have a couple of young Asian families that relocated here, but they are from a conservative, Christian nation and seem to be fitting in.
State government is VERY conservative as well as is the citizenry. Gun ownership is widespread with the state being "constitutional carry" when it comes to handguns. People here are well stocked on weapons and ammunition (and continuing to do so) because many recognize what is coming.
Note: It should be pretty obvious that this is not a place for somebody who regularly relies on governmental assistance—big city degenerates are not welcome here. Leftist/communists/NWO types are definitely NOT welcome here. (Some have moved here time and again, but they always leave because the "culture" is not to their liking. (We always politely encourage them to leave when they express their disenchantment.)
I decided to relocate here when I realized what was coming and that all major metropolitan areas in the US are going to be destroyed.

Yh I have been thinking about that hoover dam thing. It doesn't add up. If that 400megaton impact happened today I am sure there would be all sorts of long lasting evidence of our existence. An artificial moon would been a good time capsule, It would need to be much bigger than anything we could currently build and in an far orbit similar to the moon. Maybe the moon is a time capsule.
