I'm wondering why he went after Harvey Weinstein. That was a really stupid move on his part and may be the reason those girls came forward. Revenge.

The timing of the Weinstein thing was a perfect media distraction from the Vegas shooting which had just occurred. They needed to give the people a really good slide thread so they threw one of the lesser liked in their ranks to the wolves.
Schneiderman must've thought he was untouchable to take that risk.
