We do have a problem with downvoating unpopular opinions here, but someone Upvoat farming is trying to circumvent the rules implemented to protect Free Speech, which voids their claim to Free Speech.
Yup, I did agree with that post, and I would love to see admins do something to prevent unpopular opinions being restricted on a site that promotes unrestricted Free Speech.
I'll reiterate though, anyone trying to circumvent Voat Policies to artificially boost their CCP aren't trying to participate in a community that protects Free Speech, they're trying to abuse it.
I'm not opposed to that, but a required comment doesn't mean they'll explain their downvoat. They'll just make an obligatory comment saying "No", "Fuckyoufag.jpeg" or "Obligatory Downvoat comment". That'll just name the person downvoating rather than deter the action in the first place.
I'm not sure how that could be scripted into the site effectively without Admin oversight on a daily basis. Putt and Atko have lives outside of Voat that should take precedence to internet pissing contests. Justified or not, it's still a fight on the internet which is like running in the special Olympics; You may win the race but you're still a retard in the end.
I really wish I had a good answer since there are opinions that do get downvoated though simply because Voat's culture has it's own form of wrong-think, but that's been a problem too for years on here. I'm just uncertain as to how that can be protected effectively without human intervention too. Also, not a bad discussion for a 13 hour old account!
If posts are not exhorting one another, like an admin making comment about posts, then
we'll have limited intelligent response, and more of loud talking..
