Voat "Operating Costs Bar" (ideasforvoat)

I would love to see a daily or monthly operating costs bar that filled as we reached the needed donations to run voat. The current sticky was posted but I don't know where we sit currently. Have we raised two billion dollars and the site is saved forever? Has anyone actually donated? I would love to know where we stand for the day and how much is left to be raised. For me personally I am the kind of person who if I seen we were short money for the day I would give a dollar or two (even if it didn't help much). I think this would promote transparency and a nicer community feeling of everyone pitching in.

I donated but never got the badge for it. So I'm not sure if they are even keeping track of donations correctly on their end.

Aww that's sad to hear, hopefully they get that worked out! Maybe they are but it's just a bug or something? But yeah I realize there are a lot of issues currently.

Well I wouldn't expect them to make the goal automatic, I would imagine that would just be whatever number they figured up and set it for. Moreso just taking and setting the money raised via merchandise and donations added together and used to set the current percentage of the total.

That is why I set up a $5/month donation. The costs are ongoing so the donations have to be also.

Yeah I understood the part of the bitcoin and being busy I imagine it's tough to handle everything at once, anyway thanks for the update on the money raised I am really glad to hear the call for donations has worked for now!

We should have a bar that sells drinks and gets people laid and the proceeds go to the operating costs of voat.

Quarterly or annual in the sense that the goal is for a longer time period, not that it updates that infrequently.

Oh sorry, I thought you meant quarterly or annual updates! but yes definitely would work aswell. Really any sort of easy to access indicator would raise awareness much more.

oh @jaceame someone could easily automate it and put a lil gui to it for them to make alterations to the basic numbers....

Yeah that's what I was thinking, make it super simple to manage. Instead of a daily thing make it monthly spend 5 minutes a day updating it, make a ton of people happy and hopefully increase donations!

We used to have that. I think it had to be manually updated so Atko eventually gave up on it.

p2p based hosting is probably the only technical way to really cut costs.
