Get this to the top, we are going to bring Voat back after Christmas. All we need is people and collaboration to get a new site up and running. It's not hard at all.
Get on IRC by downloading an IRC client. This is where we used to chat back in the day before forums.
Link: https://hexchat.github.io/
The server you want to join is called EFNet. It is configured as a server option in HexChat.
After you join the server, join the channel called "#voat" (no quotation marks). You can do this through the client or by typing "/join #voat" (no quotation marks).
Make sure you have opsec for your IP. EFNet is an anything goes server so you should feel right at home in the channel.
We can make this work, we can set Voat up again. All we need is you in there with us and working together.
We will bring a site up. We will get out users back. We will promote free speech. All it takes is you.
Now get this to the front page and get on IRC.

Get the word out across voat!

I'm too dumb to understand any of it

Bumping this so you guys see it. This is probably the best attempt we can get. Join the channel and we will manage a new creation after the holidays.

Download HexChat, it will have EFNet already configured as a server. Join it and join the channel #voat

WHERE do we get the code (source)..license? stolen? free? What database do we use. I can potentially help in a limited fashion.
VoataoV ago
If it's too late to grab the code we just start fresh again.
thebearfromstartrack ago
How many lines of code? Do you know the basic architecture already? Done in C? Unix platform (or similar (POSIX))? Oracle db? or SQL server? Or Sybase? or what?

I am unsure, my plan was to have a room where we can discuss these matters further and devise a strategy. I do not know the technical details of this website unfortunately.

warmpotato just posted a YouTube link to a history. Architecture (.NET), language (C#,F#) and things (Cloudnet?) were revealed. Plus some other stuff, I never discovered while USING voat (didn't look too hard, but asked a couple times). apparently theres a GOAT MOUNTAIN subvoat.

https://voat.co/content/about
Scroll down. It specifically states what technology was used to create voat.

I didn't ask HARD enough back in the day I guess. Thing is I NEVER knew to LOOK in /content/about. NEVER even heard of it.

I have no way to reach other power users around here so if you can spread the word, I have the channel on EFNet set up and its a safe space for us to discuss anything within reason.

okey dokey.
