I partly think this is due to the decline in a moral system. Growing up in a religious home I had a sense of right from wrong, and could discern them and separate myself from a movie that had things in it I disagreed with, and I didn't need the movie to tell me how to behave, nor should it be a moral compass.
Problem I see today is that there's little moral compass within my peers or really moral maturity enough to know that entertainment is just that and you shouldn't be looking to it for your guidance. The recent Season of Rick and Morty got really up it's ass and preaching a sense of nilhism. Every episode the Reddit boards were swarming with people talking of how deep the show was or whatever. You also have countless YouTube videos breaking down the morality and character arcs of fictitious characters.
I just realized this was posted on funny, screw it. That's my thoughts on the matter.
It used to be the bast way also was to use IMDB, and sort rating subsection by 12 year old girls (they ahave age gender bands), and the movies 12 year olds loved were crap and hte movies they DESPISED (Lawrence of Arabia, The Sting, etc) were masterpieces.
So for a good movie, choose opposite of (((SJW professional critics))), or watch movies 12 year old girls despise using IMDB age+gender category.

The user reviews on RT are more accurate a prediction for me than the critics reviews.
