Is there an update on how much is in Voat's Bitcoin wallet?

I have zero experience with Bitcoin.

We don't know how much is in it, because the donation address never retains any bitcoin, it seems to immediately transfer any funds sent to it elsewhere. So it's likely the address is actually on an exchange like Coinbase.

That being the case, we can only tell how much bitcoin total has been sent through that address.

The current address was first used on the 17th, and has received a total of 6.22403968 bitcoins.

At $2018 per BTC that's $12560

Ive made staggering gains with ETH in the last year.

Whats 120$ ETH, if it reaches to where BTC is now?

And I moved a good portion of ETH to LTC too before its nice little hike recently :)

LTC will have a good run if BTC has issues technically, or socially come August 1st when the changes are supposed to be implemented

I made out pretty well with ETH also, got a few at 170 and 270 and also made a bit on the litecoin jump.

I'm now working on a crypto trade bot for shits and giggles.

Cryptocurrencies are the solution to our current financial system.

There can be an infinite number number of USD, and there is a finite number of BTC. BTC is a sponge for USD.

Also, after making 400% off ETH over the past year, I sold my initial investment, and kept buying the dips where appropriate.

Bull market you mean? We've already passed the high of 2012.

I think long term Bitcoin still has a long way to go. Short term I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a crash before or slightly after 2k

If you keep waiting you may never get in and regret it as people often mention.

Me personally I'm interested in Bitcoin/cryptocurrency as a means to eventually kill the fed.

I think ethereum possibly has a lot of upside as well and I'm looking into doing ethereum development to build a distributed Voat type system.

@puttitout Is it possible to get a donator tag if we donate in Bitcoin ? Wouldn't you need to provide a newly-generated receiving address to tie it to a user ?

I was thinking of donating 1 BTC to help with the costs.

Would Putt just cash 'em out on an exchange and apply to upkeep costs for Voat ?

I'm not sure what putt does with them, but at least one of my donor badges was from a bitcoin donation I sent a while back.

Voat is hosted on Azure with CloudFlare and I don't think either accepts bitcoin so it probably has to be cashed out.

Given recent craziness I wouldn't be surprised if donor badges take a while either way as I think it is a manual process.

I donated $50 via Fiat today and didn't get a new donor badge yet if you're wondering.

For the bitcoin donation I got a badge to, I posted to the transaction when I made it (was during a similar donation drive) and later pointed back at that post when I was bugging him for a badge.
