Buckle up. Voat is currently being hit with a malicious attack. This couldn't have possibly happened at a worse time for me personally and I may have to put Voat into lockdown mode or even set it to Read Only. Perhaps we will resurrect the
~~bit~~ privilege checking goat (you know you miss having your ~~bits~~ privilege checked).

I'm hoping that the code is in a good enough place to handle a majority of the incoming traffic, but expect slow responses.

I will try my best to keep Voat online. Wish me luck.

Edit:

I'm still waiting for the main attack. Every DDOS we've been hit with before follows a pattern of probing exploits, quiet time, then the full attack. So we will see, but waiting is the hardest part

Edit 2:

As of now I feel they've postponed. After taking us down two times the morning of this announcement, I've seen no further activity. A temporary win I suppose.

8ch experienced an attack this weekend and the site operator said whoever it was had deep pockets. Was wondering if Voat was next.

Voat endured a ~30 day DDOS previously (among countless others). I know who did it and 'deep pockets' is an understatement.

Isn't DDOSing extremely illegal? I saw a documentary about Anonymous and they interviewed some geeky 4chan user (not part of Anonymous) who downloaded a DDOSing software from a thread, used it on the Church of Scientology's homepage for the lulz, and got a year in jail plus he couldn't touch a computer for another year after that. How can anyone get away with serious DDOS attacks if you know who they are?

I remember when SRS was the go to for blame. I've been digging deep there and haven't found anything that implicates the sub as a whole. There was more evidence that people high up in that other site was involved. I did see support of the DDoS attacks behind the scenes. Good to know that I can quit going to that infuriating site.

I feel guilty, lol. I had just typed this comment before Voat went down - I think we might have had a major breakthrough in our research about Muslim child rape gangs in the UK and Islamist (terror) groups on v/pizzagate. ;-) ;-)

Money isn't real. They literally create it out of thin air. If you or I had the ability to do that and have everyone go along with it our funding would be unlimited too.
