hahahahahahahahaha
im finally doing it
im talking about a saturday night special
this is the hi-point c9
actually maybe thats too harsh tho
the idea of a saturday night special is that its a very cheap gun
probably really crude
and they were almost always totally unreliable trash that jammed all the time and came in tiny calibers like .22lr or .25acp
it actually has racist implications against black guys going out with an illegally obtained gun for violence lol
meanwhile the hi-point c9 is actually much better
and the company has values they stick to
they want everybody to be able to get a gun
lets hear their story
so hi-point has been around for like 30 years
first they did the engineering and then eventually expanded into construction of their guns
they were motivated to make the most basic gun they could in the most efficient way but still have it be reliable
so they do some things that are now very common and others that are very uncommon in todays handguns
they use a polymer frame like in most modern handguns
cheap and durable
but unlike almost everything nowadays its actually a blowback action
now if you remember about blowback it means there is no locking surface whatsoever
the slide just kinda mushes against the back of the barrel with spring pressure
and the slide has enough mass to make recoil slow enough to let the pressure in the chamber drop while it starts cycling
very few parts very simple very little machining required and thus reliable and cheap to manufacture
the reason nobody really uses it anymore is because you can only really go up in power to around .380 acp before the recoil gets pretty hardcore
and the c9 is a 9mm pistol
thats more powerful
so how do they do this
well you just need to add more mass to the slide
although that makes it topheavy and clunky
thats a big reason for the ungainly look of this thing
but if you are willing to deal with a somewhat oversized handgun then it works really well
its hard to screw up
and hi-point took the advantages of a blowback gun and maximized them for ultimate efficiency
the slide isnt even made out of steel
its actually cast out of a pot metal called zamak 3
a zinc magnesium copper alloy
this is super cheap and there are a lot of manufacturers for car parts in ohio area around hi-point
so it ends up working out really well for their manufacturing
the important parts like the barrel are still steel though
a potential side effect of cast parts vs forged and milled is its possible for small weak spots to form in a cast piece
and semiautos are pretty complicated machines
but hi-point has the best warranty of anything ever
if it breaks they replace it
first owner fifth owner whatever
even if you broke it by your own handloading mistakes
cant be beat
and people who buy them tend to like them
i like mine lol
its actually more accurate for me than my more expensive guns
benefit of the fixed barrel blowback action
its striker fired so no hammer
the trigger is decent
not exceptional but better than my experience with glocks
the sights are pretty nice
and i dunno what that paint is
looks like bbq paint lol
but its tough
one downside is its hard to concealed carry
and another is the magazine capacity
it only holds 8 rounds single stack
now these things were first designed around the time of the assault weapon ban in the us
so mags bigger than 10rds were banned
tho the bigger reason for only 8 rds is probably because magazines make or break the function of a gun
and single stack is easier to design well both for the mag itself and the gun
so it might be a design efficiency thing too
and speaking of extremes in design efficiency
its kinda hard to field strip this thing lol
you have to knock out a roll pin with a hammer
but after that it disassembles like any blowback
but a rollpin is easier to make and install than a special machined part
and hell blowbacks run well even when dirty
the official manual says dont even take it apart
just wash it out every 300rds or so lol
so its crude but very functional
like the sten gun in that way
and i mentioned earlier hi-point has values
and theyre actually in the top 10 us firearms manufacturers by sales
they very specifically want their guns to be used legally and work with law enforcement showing them special internal markings and things like that
so if your gun gets stolen and used in a crime they can help figure it out sooner
they are also very pro second amendment
hi-point refuses all orders to dicks sporting goods
cool stuff
the company has other guns besides the c9
they have pistols in 380 acp
bigger guns in .40 s&w and 45 acp
and pistol caliber carbines
theyve even given a couple of their weapons a facelift
theres some aftermarket support too
the carbines have aftermarket magazines and parts and even bullpup conversion stocks
my c9 came with a strange peep sight you could install
not sure why youd want that on a pistol but its a neat feature lol
turns out the guy who started the company put one on when he was getting older
he liked it so much he included it for free with all new pistols
overall there are two reasons why i love owning a hi-point
because so many people have such negative feelings
and because it just keeps going bang
it gives me great joy lol
and for 150 dollars how could you pass
yes thats right i said they cost like 150 bucks brand new
so if you need a cheap stocking stuffer this year
think hi-point
theyre tough as hell lol

I’m thinking about losing a couple of these in a fishing accident.
clamhurt_legbeard ago
you can lose these all over
your home
yard
garage
car
the carbines too
they have the extra advantages of a longgun
they get lost too

Had a C9 never will again. 1000 rounds and it never stopped being a jam o matic.
clamhurt_legbeard ago
dang are you serious
i jammed my glock but not my hipoint

For me, the paint on the feed ramp chipped causing arledge for the bullet nose to hang on causing FTF. I could of took it apart and polished the feed ramp, but ended up selling the HP and buying a Ruger P95PR.
clamhurt_legbeard ago
why even sell a hipoint
did you need the 20 dollars that bad lol
Rellik88 ago
I sold it for $180 I paid $150 hahaha
clamhurt_legbeard ago
lol nice
clamhurt_legbeard ago
fuuuuuck
thats awesome
i paid 170 for mine
i think it was during obamamania so it was expensive lol
love it

Very nice clammy, due to popular demand I was making another chicken pot pie tonight, pastry from scratch though and the cooking took me two freagin hours all-in-all then clean up... it was worth it though!
Nice gun review, so have you got to the point where you have washed yours out yet? Lol, I wonder if I stuff it in a pillow and put it on delicate cold wash in the machine if it will do the trick... ;)
Pity it’s so bulky though but good price for the bang...
clamhurt_legbeard ago
its bigger than a m&p shield
but its smaller than my sig 226
so its not crazy
just bigger than it would be if it were tilting barrel locking beech
thats the trade off
i havent cleaned mine yet lol
but i havent shot it a ton
gonna start shooting it more now

Yeah, kind of awkward dimensions but dead simple. I do like the carbine a lot. Been wanting to try one in 10mm
clamhurt_legbeard ago
dude i want a carbine
and 10mm is a good choice for a carbine
speedisavirus ago
They aren't terribly expensive. Might buy one after the holidays. Guess we will see. Pretty sure they are ~$400.
clamhurt_legbeard ago
and the 10mm is new and more expensive than the other carbines

Taking a page out of the good old Italian's playbook with Chiappa's RFID in the handguard, I see.
clamhurt_legbeard ago
nothing that crazy
this shit needs to cost less than a nickel lol

Wonder how I'd go about donating a gun to DR. Like, an expensive one.
Nadeshda ago
You can donate a gun to the Nadeshda charity...
clamhurt_legbeard ago

I've shot a High Point 9. Clunky is a good word for it. I remember the magazine being hard to reload. I swear my buddy paid less than 200 for it new.
clamhurt_legbeard ago
hell yeah he did
even in expensive states its less than 200 for sure
i havent shot mine in a while but im going to on christmas
i remember being impressed by its accuracy and not having any real issues
we shall see if i have been good this year
