You can use that for good or for evil. But I guess in a sense you're right. It's easier to get people to sympathize with Walter white across multiple seasons than in a 2 hour movie.
Not that I completely disagree but it seems more likely series are a way for them to stretch out a story so they can claim they have a lot of content and to keep people using their service
