  • It is written in Ruby, and uses two libraries: Capybara and Selenium
  • Selenium is Google Chrome browser turned into a scripting system.
  • Capybara has something to do with imitating human clicks in a less bot-like way.

Those website previews of external websites you see in some tweets are made by Twitter based on OpenGraph, extra tags web developers put in websites to look better on Facebook SEO. Facebook invented it but Twitter has a similar-but-different version.

The extra tags are a pain in the neck to write by hand and don't always turn out right...

  • For Twitter, the external website specifies the preview image with: <meta name="twitter:image" content="http://www.yoursite.com/yourimage.jpg"/>
  • On Twitter itself, the info is displayed inside a bunch of <div>-'s, I'm not acustomed to scraping Twitter... :/

You can do it manually, I think I will give it a shot. Remove the final ' from the URL name to get to the actual card validator, looks like maybe qmap.pub auto-creates the "archive link" which is the folder after the URL, because it also has the ' at the end of it.

That brings up a page asking for a URL with metadata. So, I'll create a page with some metadata in it, and continue. First I'll look to see what metadata it wants: okay, this page describes how to set it up:

It includes the following:

Content is cached by Twitter for 7 days after a link to a page with card markup has been published in a Tweet.

That seems to be telling: he died 8 days after. So if it was created late on 5/17 and he died early on 5/25, then it's possible that it was cached for 7 days at that point. Knowing those times seems important to continuing, at least, down this line of thought.

Right after the above is this:

That might prove useful later, we shall see.
