As usual, Trump is right. As a dentist I recently found this information on the professional site Epocrates Recent update on #COVIDー19 (#COVID19 ) Drug therapy Trials: Hydroxychloroquine and Azithromycin results of an open-label non-randomized clinical trial. Single-arm protocol; 36 pts treated w/200mg tid x 10 days; 6 pts received azithromycin (Zpack) w/ ECG monitoring. Treated pts had significant reduction in viral carriage at day 6 and much lower carriage duration vs controls; addition of Azithromycin resulted in significantly more efficient virus elimination. (This is from Epocrates guide to drugs for physicians and health professionals). In laymen's terms: this is a scientific and controlled study that definitively demonstrates hydroxychloroquine (chloroqine anti-malaria drug) works by itself and even better and with the antibiotic Azithromycin. This is extremely good news. It means the virus can be effectively treated and we all should be able to go back to life as usual very soon.

There is an abundant supply of both of these drugs. Other drugs will soon be undergoing trials as well. chloroquine and azithromycin carry a risk of cardiac arrhythmias, hence the need for heart monitoring when given together. Another hopeful drug is Gilead's remdesivir which is starting clinical trials soon but does not have a history of use like chloroquine.

QAnon recently told us "Do not fear. Q" Clearly he already knows there is an effective treatment for the #ChineseVirus so the panic and fear is unjustified. The only question is when this will be officially announced so the craziness can end.OK, to me it is clear the #Propaganda #FakeNewsMedia has no interest in diffusing this man-made "crisis", nor do their #DeepStateCabal puppet masters. I'm a dentist and I think that the answer can be both. Topical fluoride works for teeth, I've absolutely seen teeth with decay in the outer layer become re-mineralized due to fluoride. Studies show efficacy, making teeth structurally resistant to pHs a full pH lower (more acidic)

Meanwhile, I think Fluoride has no place being in water though. Systemic fluoride clearly has negative effects and imo does no good for teeth.

Good question with a not-so simple answer.

Firstly, $1,000/hour is totally false. $1,000/hour would maybe be something like a 1.5 million dollar annual income.

Secondly, you should always get a 2nd or 3rd opinion if you believe you were quoted too much. Dentistry is a business just like any other, and dentistry is being corporatized by people who just want money at the expense of people. I can't tell you the number of patients I have who come in, corporate office wanted to do 12+ fillings, when I only found maybe 1-2. Or, they push you to do crowns far too early in the life of a tooth, because its better $ per their time. Your dentist should always be able to explain why they recommend something, or take a picture of cavity or crack to show you.

Now, thirdly, to explain the costs, dentists are squeezed from every angle. The cost of dental school is going up due to guaranteed government loans, kids come out with $350-550,000 in debt. Operating costs are expensive, tech support is overpriced, materials are jacked up because the supplier companies want to make their money too - we call this the dental tax. I see shitty intraoral cameras that could be like $20 priced at $1,200 just because it's for dentistry.

Dental insurances don't exist to help the average person. They exist to profit themselves. They aren't doctors but they have no problem telling dentists what treatment is acceptable or not for a patient. Dental insurance profit is normally profit that could be passed on to you the consumer.

Costs include team members to make a dental office work. People answering the phones, making appointments, filing insurance claims for every procedure completed in the front. In the back we're sterilizing instruments, wiping down rooms between ever patient. My operating costs for team alone is probably $100/hour. When a patient cancels their appt, I am sometimes losing money because my operating expenses aren't going away.

I don't think about this too much, but you mentioned it, government regulations and insurances. We had to make our front door handicap friendly, create a ramp in the front. There's worker's comp, liability insurance, malpractice insurance, disability insurance, overhead insurance, etc.

All things considered, dentistry is a service-based industry with great margins. Yes, it is very easy to go bankrupt (you don’t hear about these), but it's also easy to make a great living. The dentists who are producing $500+ an hour consistently are usually doing volume-dentistry extremely quickly, sometimes taking shortcuts, or they are doing advanced procedures that people pay for like implants and cosmetic cases. I probably spend $15,000 a year on continued education as well. Just my two cents but thought I'd give some insigh

If you're brushing your teeth like you should be normally, the top risk factor would probably be dry mouth / no saliva (technically called xerostomia).

Saliva helps to breakdown residues, neutralize acids, etc and also helps to flush bacteria from sticking to teeth. Dry mouth = high risk factor for caries (decay). Fluoride will definitely help to strengthen the tooth against decay initiating so that makes sense to me.

I'm unsure if it would help prevent micro-cracks tbh. Cracks are usually developed over time, and especially from teeth-on-teeth action (grinding), your appliance in theory should help (?) because it prevents grinding.

Thanks Doc! You might be on to something with dry mouth, I keep water by the bed and sip when I wake up in the middle of the night. I was mostly curious about the fluoride treatments because I've seen so much angst over it. I follow strict regime of brushing, flossing, water pick, twice a day, brush and floss at work after lunch, which is why I'm always surprised to find little cavities developing that need work. I try to avoid any hard crunchy food now, not even almonds to keep the teeth from cracking. The appliance prevents damage from the grinding. It's annoying to spend so much on teeth and still have issues every time I go back. My gf says that lady is scamming you! She just wan'ts you to put her kid through collage! I said, how is it a scam if she takes a picture of the tooth and it appears on the computer screen instantly and she shows the damage to me :D

3) MI Paste

For demineralization, whatever the cause, be it acidic environment (what a coincidence, bacteria and cancer alike do well in acidic environments) or lack of minerals. Contains Calcium and Phosphate and you gently swab it on your teeth for 30 minutes.

Funny, but your dentist just got caught with his pants down. Yes, the sun puts out UV radiation which causes sunburns (weaker, absorbed by skin), but the sun also emits x-rays which are different, those rays will go through your brain just like a dental x-ray does.

Your checkup x-rays (if digital) now are ~0.005 mSv total. Literally taken in a fraction of a second. That's nothing. You'll get more x-ray radiation than that in a day. For comparison a medical CT scan of your head is 2.0 mSv. Now THAT is cancer trouble, especially if repeated.

Dental x-ray radiation has been reduced so much these days, that the standard of care now is that your dentist should take x-rays. Legally, if you get a cavity that is undetected and untreated due to lack of x-rays, you will win if you sue the dentist, even with SIGNED CONSENT.

Imo I'd rather get .005 mSv radiation than have decay/bacteria reach nerves that are already in my skull, or enter blood vessels carrying bacteria to my heart. Just my 2 cents.

The study sited actually used hydroxychloroquine not chloroquine. It is safer than chloroquine. Both have been used safely for years ...in fact I took it for malaria prophylaxis when I was in Africa in the 1980's. However, as noted, both Azithromycin and chloroquine can cause arrhythmias, so the heart must be monitored when taken together. Here is the full article if you are interested.

I've been on it for over 2 years. Rheumatologist prescribes it. I have to get a 'Plaquenil' eye exam every year. Longterm use and higher dosage can cause retina damage. Eye doctor told me that they don't see damage for the dose I'm on. For a temporary use, like the virus would be safe. I haven't experienced any side effects.

The active ingredient is 'Wormwood.' Also found in the green liqueur, Absinthe.

Sorry for not just addressing chloroquine by itself. There is no drug on the planet that does not have side effects that you can take. Drugs requiring scipts are detremined to side effects that need to be supervised by doctors. This is one of those drugs. It sister hydroxychloroquine has far fewer side efffects but still needs to be monitored. One of the side effects of the later one deals with the retina and blindness every six months you would need to have an eye exam from a Optometrist as an example. I say operate as if it were proven. Get the medicines to the hospitals in the volume they need. In parallel, get a larger study going. These numbers are too small.

You don't want to give these medicines to patients without proof that they are effective. All drugs have side effects, and these can cause heart problems. In cases where the patient is going to die, then give them. but there is no downside in doing a real study to remove all doubt while you are ramping up.

The downside with just going forward is that wide Z-pack use will make anti-biotic resistant bacteria. Also may kill patients with possibly unknown heart problems.
