You don't get to do horrific things or receive the get out of jail free cards immediately when you join. You have to impress those above you that are totally into it, and are ready to put your loyalty to Masons above your allegiance to anything else. If they believe that you'll eventually be asked to join higher and higher ranks until you finally get to do atrocities and be immune from the consequences.
