The images, which were obtained by 60 Minutes and shown publicly for the first time on Sunday, were taken by the New York City medical examiner's office after Epstein killed himself in his cell last August.

Broken hyoid bone strongly indicates throttling or strangulation

Seems very hard to brake the hyoid bone by yourself. As that bone is not directly connected to any other bones and its located far up between the neck and the jaw bone. Hyoid bone did not break itself? ;)

In a suspected case of murder or physical abuse, a fractured hyoid strongly indicates throttling or strangulation in an adult. Unlike other bones, the hyoid is only distantly articulated to other bones by muscles or ligaments. The hyoid is anchored by muscles from the anterior, posterior and inferior directions, and aids in tongue movement and swallowing.

Not a medicalfag, but that detail also caught my attention. In trying to explain it, I theorized that wierd curled-lobe might be the result of the cervical collar pushing them up. If the collar stays on him for a bit after he is dead, they may hold that shape for a while.

Just speculating.
