well, i agree they want us to be tender little herbivores but the farmer in me is forcing me to tell you that the alternative to grass fed beef is grain fed beef and even grass fed beef usually gets put in a lot and grain fed for a few weeks prior to slaughter.
yeah the alfalfa out there has become over-run with GMO. getting harder to find any that isn't, so if a farmer seeds alfalfa in the pasture that is gmo of course the cows will be eating GMO feed. It IS technically still grass fed if its out there on pasture or even just getting hay. Unless your package of meat states non-GMO feed you can't guarantee anything. I buy the ONLY brand of alfalfa pellet that's sold locally that still says no GMO on the label. If that changes i can see me switching to an alternative protein like amaranth.
Well there was a practice of feeding cow byproducts to cows which of course gets you mad cow disease and so it's pretty frowned on now. Yep, a cow is an herbivore through and through.
