The pilot had a ham radio license. Believe radio communications went all the way to Malta which is a cryptocurrency capital.

Also, check into radio communications to Malta. The only reason I say this is that when running searches, kept being lead to this: 9H6/ZS4U Malta But have not gotten anything concrete on that, simply being lead to that.
