Are there checks in place so that no two aircraft have the same tail number? It seems like it would be important to avoid that, otherwise what is the point of a tail number?

If you look up the tail number on the faa database it shows it. This has been proven. It shares the same tail number as an ov-10 bronco.

They are centralized so if two ping long enough. As in minutes for VFR prop and seconds if they fly fast or high enough.
