Why do I as a Canadian believe in Nationalism. My great grandfather immigrated with his family to Canada many years ago. He did not bring with him the problems of his home Country he left for a better life. That meant leaving all the crap behind and found a country where the values were the same as his and lived by them.
I can remember a night out with a Japanese visitor to Canada. A few friends of mine and her were discussing options for dinner. One person suggested we all goto "Japanese Village" a fun nice restaurant good food, good atmosphere ect. Her response was great. 12 hours in a plane to get to Canada and you want me to experience CDN Japanese food?
My Chinese friends that have come to see Canada and looked for something Canadian to bring back as a token of their trip, looked at everything they picked up and wanted nothing that said made in China. Not because it was inferior or anything like that they wanted something made in Canada.
I don't want to goto India to eat at a Chinese or Italian restaurant I want to experience the real Indian dishes. Likewise in any other country. I don't want to goto Kenya to see an American movie. No I want to experience Kenyan tradition and culture.
I don't want move to another Country and resist their culture and impose my own on them.
Why would anyone leave their home in their Country and move to another to escape the problems just to turn around and "Honour kill their daughter" in my country ect.
Im not great at expressing myself but I hope my point gets across like this. If we all get put in the same pot and are forced to conform to one way of life and everything we are becomes the same dull crap.
I believe in love and good in all races and cultures. If your Country or culture is not what I believe to one of Love and respect for your fellow person, I will just not participate in or visit. I expect the same from others that want to come to my Country to visit or start a new life.
