Mary, the mother of Jesus was not a jew, nor even a child of the tribe of Judah only, but instead was from the tribe of Levi, as Mary's cousin was a Levite, which would sure make Mary one herself too. And of course since Jesus was born of a virgin birth, that leaves Mary's tribe as being the determiner of which tribe Jesus came from if one wants go by genealogies.
When they split into two nations, the House (nation) of Judah consisted of the tribes of Judah and Benjamin. The House of Israel was the other 10 tribes.
