It has to do with how cheap it is to make and how fabric color issues can be hidden with stripes making it so the manufacturer doesn’t need to trash the fabric. My sons all have lots of stripes in their closets.
the point of hiding something in plain sight is exactly so that normal people would have overlap and thus not see anything strange about it. You are literally confirming the point of why they use it to send a message, so thank you, despite your ill will towards the logic of it.
