This is really great work you have done. Amazing find. A couple of questions...
What is the context of this painting? I.e. Where does it hang? Who owns it? Was it commissioned by someone specific for a particular venue?
Could you include links about this piece of art here in the comments so we can check it out ourselves?
Can you describe what made you zero in on this artist and this piece in particular?
Any archives available of discussions about it on the chans?
Thanks for posting this! When I am not on mobile I will look at it more closely.
One thing I can tell you is that the central figure is a very famous ancient Catholic/Byzantine/Greek Orthodox icon called "Christ Pantocrator". I can also tell you that the icon is a crazy match to the image on the Shroud of Turin.
I have no idea where this painting ended up, it was always marked as "sold" on the website.
I first saw the artist's work "Nobody's Pushover" hanging in the background of Comet Pizza, as pointed out by others on 4chan. It was just weird, and in light of other "weird art" many people scoured his website looking to see if he was "one of them"
He might be.
When you visit the website, and I know you will, see if "my" (GAM) painting strikes you like it did me. It's very different from the rest. Well, a handful of them are different than the rest.
I don't know enough about art to accurately assess what "spoke" to me, but I knew it was a map when I saw it.
To my subconscious' credit, I had been looking at maps of DC, the areas in and around Comet Pizza, DuPont Circle, etc. I recognized Arlington Cemetery first, and Connecticut Ave., And then Meridian Hill Park..
There are no archives of this on 4chan that I am aware of, I wasn't able to create my own thread to discuss it, (banned) but I was able to post it in someone else's thread, (not banned?) And that thread, as luck would have it, was archived immediately after, so it didn't get much attention. I tried again, and I am banned again..
I knew there were people here who might have something to add, so here we are..
Thank you for the new information, I had no idea this was anything else..
This is the work of Matt Sesow. He lives in DC, is disabled, I believe he's missing a hand, something like that. He is connected to James Alefantis via the artsy support network they have created for the artists that cater to their specific tastes.
His website shows him to be a busy guy, creating many, many works. Some are bright and interesting, some are disturbing, some are frightening, still others are horrific.
In the first page of my piece I noted a painting called "Nobody's Pushover" which was (still could be) displayed at Comet Pizza.
It might be better if link to his website, it's hard to see what made "God is an American" stand out from the rest without looking at the rest.. they are all clearly symbolic while staying just inside abstract.. that is the spirit of the artist showing. I believe this style is equally symbolic, and equally abstract, it only appears more abstract in "God is.." because it started as a MAP. Not a three dimensional figure, or a depicted situation.
He has a few in the style of "God is an American" I will be looking at all of those, to see what may be seen. Monkey vs Elephant is next. I think it's DC too.
It reminds me very much of the maps you get at the zoos, or amusement parks, where everything is drawn as landmarks. I always liked those, I'm a big fan of little details..

Could you please post this on slimgur? Imgur is in bed with reddit and the + sign isn't working for me.

I'll try.. I am having technical difficulties at the moment, nothing I can't handle, any excuse to buy a new computer is a good one!
So for now I'm stuck with just my phone, and, that complicated everything.

I'm not finished yet, but I think there is enough to bring it to everyone's attention.
I am new here, and I am happy to find people who are still on this.
I come from 4chan, and have been following pizza-gate for months. I signed up here a few weeks ago, but had forgotten my password.
I am continuing my work, "mapping" this painting, but at this point I would love some input from people who live in the DC area. Or anybody, really.
Thank you!

thanks for coming here, your work will receive attention. Can you give me some more reference. Is this an artist that Podesta was interested in?
