It's original purpose was to cut off a degree of funding to LBJ's political rivals. While it sounds good on paper I'm not sure it is. On the one hand it could empower Middle America and create a situation where certain campaign donations could be routed through tax free entities. On the other hand if it's repealed poorly I could see it being used by Islamic organizations to fund money into American politics tax free. Since we're still a predominantly Christian nation would it be beneficial and help promote secular Christian politicians or will it be repealed poorly and create a giant loophole? It covers more than just churches and goes into other non-profit organizations. I don't really see this issue as being related to a separation of church and state as before LBJ there were less problems. Is it too little too late? Will the government just fuck up the repeal making the situation worse? Would it spark another rise of the religious right (not particularly a good thing on a national stage like the presidency but perhaps good on a state level stage.) . What do you guys think?
