Hey mr Pim, I use an iPhone .in the past I made a post (not on this sub) about mildec that didn’t auto download to my phone just opened like any other page, was useful info anyway upon posting link I got a lot of flak about posting auto download PDF. So I wonder if it has something to do with iPhone users being unaware of this.
What happens when you click a PDF link is largely up to your browser settings.
The only reason some PDFs behave differently is because the server they are hosted on is not configured to correctly identify them as PDFs, so your browser treats them like general files instead. The correct solution here is to tell your browsers to never auto-load PDFs, but always ask you what you want to do with them.
Here's a pretty straight-forward guide on how to change this behavior in your browser.
I would love to hear any suggestions on where I can post PDFs anonymously for others to download? As of right now everything seems to auto download these PDFs.
Make sure you're using safe PDF viewers, people.
I appreciate you bringing the malware matter to my attention. For now post flairs will be used.
I wonder if we could persuade puttler to code a warning or a confirmation box on pdf links. It's an issue globally on voat and pisses me off all the time.

people should just use tors. any fucking webpage isn't safe
TheGrandMaster ago
That's what we're trying to mitigate, lots of people are using compromised PDF viewers allowing some PDFs to execute java and flash attacks.

What's the safest way to open a pdf?
TheGrandMaster ago
On any PDF viewer you can disable JavaScript and flash. That's a start.
The only way to be 100% safe is to run the PDF on a virtual machine, based on what I'm reading.
Good information here

A tech solution would be ideal in this situation.
