Are the Pineberries any good? I've got one but it hasn't produced yet.

Epictetus_Hierapolis ago

Yeah, they taste pretty much like strawberries. A little tart when they just ripening, extra sweet when they are ripe. It's difficult to tell when they are ripe though.

Yum!

My strawberry experiment was a failure this year. Maybe next year.

I'll probably send some to middle_path for the next seed exchange. I've got thousands of plants at this point and need to thin them out.

Warnos44 ago

Is there anything you're looking for?

Epictetus_Hierapolis ago

Mostly just to create breathing room in the beds, lol. I'll make sure some get set aside for you, just because of the insane amount of effort and work you have put into your farm/garden.

Thank you! I have pineapple pear, Oriental pear, honey crisp Apple, granny Smith Apple, and I just got Russian mulberry in but it appears to be doing well. The granny Smith is a new plant too but it seems to be taking off. I also have lemon, lime, orange, tangerine, and Clementine. I'm in 7b so those have to be brought into a greenhouse or the house itself during the winter. When I lived in Miami I had a lemon and lime tree on my front porch and frequently got a fresh one for cooking, very enjoyable to have and they're so beautiful!

I will also have angel trumpet in three colors, it's just now coming up but is hearty.

Happy to send you scions of anything you'd like. I have that cloner too if you'd like roots on it. No idea how long it would take to produce off of a clone.

I really wish I could do citrus and loquat. One of the few things I miss about living on the gulf coast. No rooting needed, I'm grafting them to hardy root stock.

Ive got: European pear; anjou, seckel, ubileen, hailey's red, pineapple.

Asian pear; daisui li, New airirang, and shinkseiki.

Plum; toka, menthley, bubblegum

Peach, two unknown varieties

Apricot, nine unknown varieties(haven't fruited yet, so I'm not sure what they will produce)

Cherry; Nanking, montmorency

Apple; honeycrisp, Arkansas Black, strawberry, akane, golden treat, and a couple of unnamed varieties I snagged from trees in the neighborhood, plus some crab apples that make good jelly.

Man it must be almost a chore to harvest everything!

I don't think that my Asian pear has a type listed on it beyond "Oriental". I kept the tag so I'll check later.

You don't think that you could do citrus and just bring inside when it gets cold?

Epictetus_Hierapolis ago

This will be the first year producing anything, so I'm not sure. It's only a handful of trees though, they are just grafts so I can get a harvest continually. IE, some apples are just flowering and some are a month from harvest, on the same tree.

Couldn't do citrus, I just don't get enough sun being in a mountain valley. I may get six hours of sun in winter if I'm lucky.
