I would add be flexible in your year to year expectations. Every year is different, every child is different. Remember, you do not recall everything you learned in school-only what was interesting.
Stick to the basics with an emphasis on maths, reading great old books, writing, Latin.
Definitely need flexibility. It gives the kids a chance to stay interested and excel in some areas while taking their time with others they may struggle with.
