You can turn off the snow flakes in your settings. I have always used the dark background here on VOAT, its a lot easier on the eyes for me anyway. In your case if you like it bright, just look under the little GEAR icon for settings and you will find an icon that looks like a crescent MOON, there you can change the theme. Good luck.
